Caffeine Addiction ☕

Updated: Sep 25, 2020

Many people don't realize just how much caffeine they are consuming through the day, but it important to remember that up to 400 milligrams (mg) of caffeine a day appears to be safe for most healthy adults.

That's roughly the amount of caffeine in four cups of brewed coffee or two "energy shot" drinks.

Cutting back on caffeine can be challenging. An abrupt decrease in caffeine may cause withdrawal symptoms, such as:

  • Migraine

  • headache

  • Insomnia

  • Nervousness

  • Irritability

  • Restlessness

  • Frequent urination or inability to control urination

  • Stomach upset

  • Fast heartbeat

  • Muscle tremors

Fortunately, these symptoms are usually mild and resolve after a few days.

Reducing the amount of caffeine you drink can an increase in your quality of sleep, lower your blood pressure, decrease your anxiety/jitters, lose weight (unless you drink black coffee), eliminate stained/yellowed teeth, save money (ex: Starbucks Grande Latte is $3.85 a day | $27 a week | $1,405 a year), just to name a few.
